John Gardner is a longtime journalist who has worked for a handful of newspapers in the Western half of the United States, most recently the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and The Seattle Times. A lifelong sports fan with a chronic obsession with Nebraska football, he has had the pleasure of witnessing such feats as Michael Jordan scoring 29 points in one quarter, a high school basketball player dunking from the free-throw line during a state championship game, and women cyclists speeding 60 mph down a mountain road. To stay fit, he chases his soon-to-be 1-year-old son around the house every morning before work. No small feat, as all you parents know so well.
