Parkplace Ravenna Gardens Store Closing in January

The owner says with the redevelopment of Parkplace Center pending, it's time to move on.

After eight years at Parkplace Center, the store will close in mid-January, owner Gillian Mathews announced earlier this week.

“It’s been kind of a sad week for us,” she said Wednesday. “We’ve been here eight years, and our customers have been fab.”

The Parkplace Center is scheduled for a complete redevelopment, although the start date is uncertain. But Mathews said simply it was an appropriate time to close.

“We would still like to be on the Eastside,” she said. “We have been talking with some people.”

The store sells plants, gardening supplies and landscape design products, and its brick design and quaint decor appealed to many local gardeners who preferred the smaller size to the big box stores.

Mathews owns another Ravenna Gardens store in University Village in Seattle, and it will remain open. “It’s had its best year ever,” she noted.

The Kirkland store is liquidating its inventory with a sale, with prices reduced 30 to 50 percent.
