City Proclaims Earth Hour for Saturday, 8:30 p.m.

Kirkland joins cities around the world in observing one hour of lights out to raise awareness about climate change.

The City of Kirkland is calling on residents to observe Earth Hour this Saturday by flipping their light switches off for one hour, from 8:30-9:30 p.m.

At its March 20 meeting, the Kirkland City Council proclaimed Earth Hour after a presentation by members of Sustainable Kirkland, joining more than 5,000 communities across the world in officially supporting the event.

Earth Hour 2012 is designed to raise awareness about global warming, led by the World Wildlife Fund, a leading conservation organization. Kirkland residents and businesses are encouraged to “turn out and switch off” lights from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. (local time) on March 31. During Earth Hour, the city will dim or turn off lights at .
