Help Out: Food for Hungry Kirkland Kids Needed by Nourishing Networks

Local volunteers with the Nourishing Network are scrambling to come up with enough donated food to help dozens of families in need whose kids will miss free school lunches during the upcoming spring break.

Local volunteers for the Nourishing Network and the Kirkland Kiwanis are urging the community to help out on a food drive to make sure at-risk students have enough to eat during spring break April 6-14.

The Nourishing Network is a collaborative effort by members of local cities designed to provide food for the most needy local residents, who often fall between the gaps of existing services.

Before each school break it gathers food for families of children supported by the free school lunch program, to ensure they have enough to eat during the time away from school.

“These are real families in our community that don't have enough to eat,” says a post on the Sign-up web pages of the Network.

Dozens of Kirkland families who need help during the break have been identified, and those with food to contribute are asked to drop it off on April 4 and 10 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints across from 132nd Square Park (132ND Ave NE & NE 132ND St),  between 8:00 and noon.
