The Many Worlds of Christmas - Kirkland Performance Center

Visit holiday music, customs and traditions around the world with Master Chorus Eastside as it presents The Many Worlds of Christmas. Sample a mummer’s song from snowy Latvia, a royal visit from the Three Kings in a villancico from Spain, spicy numbers from Haiti and Trinidad (The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy), and two delightful hot weather Christmas carols from Australia. Familiar carols from Europe and the United States are not forgotten: Silent Night from Austria, I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing in from England, Angels We Have Heard on High from France, Deck the Halls from Wales, and Go Tell it on the Mountain and I Wonder as I Wander from our own home shores round out the program. “There are many wonderful holiday customs and songs from other cultures, and I wanted to bring the world of Christmas to our audience,” says conductor Linda Gingrich. “I’ll also talk about the traditions and history of some of these customs as part of my concert commentary, so our listeners will get a fuller glimpse of the way other cultures celebrate the Christmas season.”
