It’s Thursday, and you have no idea what you’ll do for the big holiday weekend. Kirkland Patch is coming to the rescue. We have the best bets for your done-with-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars, restaurants and shops to explore.

  • Where/When: 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday in downtown Kirkland, based at . 
  • Why Go: This is Kirkland's signature summertime celebration, starting with a kids parade (11:30 a.m.) and continuing with the 12th annual old-fashioned patriotic parade (noon), the Rotary Club of Kirkland’s “Duck Dash” (3 p.m.) and concluding with a fireworks spectacular fireworks show (10:15 p.m.). The city expects some 10,000 people to enjoying the celebration. All the city's waterfront parks offer great viewing of the fireworks, including , ,  and  parks, along with  on the bluff above the marina.
  • Cost: Free.

  • Where/When: 4 p.m. - 5 :30 p.m. Friday, July 1 at Deseret Book in Bellevue.
  • Why Go: Lisa Mangum will be signing the final book from her award-winning Hourglass Door series, The Forgotten Locket this Friday at Deseret Book. Visit Lisa Mangum website to learn more about her Forgotten Locket series.
  • Cost: Free.

UFC 132 Cruz vs Faber

  • Where/When: 6 p.m. Saturday, July 2 at various locations, use the UFC Bar Finder to view a list of bars or restaurants showing the fights.
  • Why Go: Can't wait until the 4th to see some fireworks? UFC 132 should have plenty in store for you this Saturday. In the main event, Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz will defend his title against former WEC Featherweight champ Urijah Faber. Also on the fight card, local favorite Jeff Hougland is set to make his UFC debut. Check out Patch's coverage of Hougland here.
  • Cost: Usually no cover.

 

  • Where/When: 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at in Kirkland.
  • Why Go: If laughs are what you’re after this holiday weekend, you won't have to travel too for to get them. James Heneghen will be performing Thursday through Saturday at Laughs in Kirkland. His routine will have you laughing all night long. But don't take my word for it. Check out this clip of Heneghen in action.
  • Cost: Tickets are $10.

 

  • Where/When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Francis J. Gaudette Theatre in Issaquah.
  • Why Go: This is the last weekend you'll be able to catch the Village Theatre's production of Jesus Christ Superstar before the show picks up and moves to Everett. This is an updated retelling of Jesus Christ Superstar. You won't see robes or sandals in this production. Can't quiet remember what this musical is all about? Here's a little refresher, enjoy!
  • Cost: Tickets range between $20 and $60.
