WEEKEND PLANNER: Juanita Beach Re-Opening; Twilight Flick at Carillon Point

It’s Thursday, and other than Seafair and watching the hydro races, you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. K-Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-with-work-get-me-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit.

Juanita Beach Re-Opening 

  • Where/When: , Friday at 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: If for no other reason, then old-time's sake. The park's beach area has been a hugely popular recreation spot for more than 80 years and will partially re-open after a long and trouble-plauged $1.18 million modernization that remains underway. The beach area will re-open, but newly seeded areas of lawn will be fenced off, and the area around Juanita Creek will remain closed until late September.
  • Pricing: Free.

Carillon Point Outdoor Movie Night

  • Where/When: Carillon Point Plaza, Saturday, opening an hour before dusk, with the flick showing around 8:45 p.m.
  • Why Go: Snuggle up to your honey, not only because of the romantic view over Lake Washington, but also because the movie this time is scary: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Bring folding beach chairs and blankets and snacks (although you'll be surrounded by three nice restaurants and the old-fashioned popcorn machine will be a-poppin').
  • Pricing: A $5 donation to  is requested.

Wizard of Oz

  • Where/When: 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at ; also Aug. 5-7.
  • Why Go: Support local theater by seeing 's big summer production of the beloved classic on KPC's stage, the company's 14th summer teen musical, featuring lots of local kids.
  • Cost: All seats $15.



  • Where/When: 11 a.m. Saturday at 
  • Why Go: Most people think zucchinis are good for only a couple of things: roasting or making zucchini bread. Be prepared to have those preconceptions squashed this weekend as the Redmond Zucchini 500 returns to the Redmond Saturday Market. All supplies will be provided free of charge by market vendors, and prizes will be awarded. Participants are asked to pre-register at the market's info desk prior to the event.
  • Pricing: Free.

 

Seattle Seafair

  • Where/When: All weekend long, Gennessee Park in Seattle
  • Why Go: Seafair weekend means two things for Seattle-area residents: traffic headaches and a boat-load of family-friendly activities. Some of the highlights include the U.S. Navy Blue Angels demonstrations, hydroplane races and torchlight parade. Click here for a complete schedule, and be sure to time your bridge crossing carefully as both  and  will experience periodic closures during the festival.
  • Pricing: Free.

 

Camlann Summer Village Festival

  • Where/When: Noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Camlann Medieval Village in Carnation
  • Why Go: Camlann is a medieval village in Carnation that recreates daily life in times of old. This is not a renaissance/fantasy fair, but a historically accurate living village of life in medieval times. There is a black smith’s shop, candle making, plays, music, feats and entertainment. Costumes may be rented for $10 for children, $25 for adults.
  • Pricing: Children (5-12) $5, Adults $10.
