  • Where/When: 6:30 p.m. Fri, Oct 7 at .
  • Why Go: Join the Kirkland Performance Center this Friday for an evening filled with the sights, sounds and tastes of the Iberian Peninsula.  At 6:30 p.m. KPC will host a free wine tasting featuring the wines of Portugal. Following the tasting, at 7:30 pm, KPC hosts Antonio Zambujo for an evening of fado (traditional Portuguese music), jazz and Brazilian grooves.

  • Where/When: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Sat, Oct 8 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland.
  • Why Go: Looking for new ways to make a difference in your communities? Come to the Eastside Volunteer Fair this Saturday and network with local social service agencies to learn how you can make a difference. Bring your family, your church, your neighbors, all are welcome.

  • Why Go: This Friday will be the last day of the Juanita Friday Market for the season. So take advantage of this amazing market while you can and pick up all your favorite locally grown fruits, vegetables, beautiful flowers, honey products, breads, and other tasty treats. And as always, while you shop, you'll get enjoy the live music and performances going on throughout the day.

  • Why Go: Take an in depth look into our universe during a free showing of "Stars" at the Willard Geer Planetarium at Bellevue College. After the show stay to take a brief tour of the night sky using the state-of-the-art Digistar 3 planetarium projector.  Shows start at 7:30 and 8:30 PM and will last approximately 35-40 minutes.

  • Why Go: Aki con in its 4th year is a truly a one of a kind event. It runs 54 hours long and includes over 20 different contests, a concert every night, dances, a manga library filled with over 5000 manga, video game tournaments, larping and more.

  • Why Go: The Mercer Island Arts Council's "Classics on Film" is back. This time, the popular film series delves into the interconnectedness and isolation of people, places, and things through a five part documentary film series titled, "Economies of Scale". The series kicks things off this Friday with The One Percent, a documentary by Jamie Johnson that provides rare insights into attitudes of people born into extreme privilege.

  • Why Go: Help make the Westside Park and Clise Creek a better place for people, fish and wildlife this Saturday at the Sammmaish ReLeaf 2011. You'll join other like-minded volunteers to help plant native plants, remove invasive plants, and maintain previous plantings within the park, and keep invasive species at bay to make Westside Park more scenic and accessible. Individuals, families, scouts, church and other groups are welcome.

  • Why Go: Help celebrate local art this weekend at the 5th annual Sammmamish Arts Fair. The fair will feature the jury-selected work of over 30 local artists and offer live entertainment, refreshments and activities. Available for viewing and purchase will be original paintings, jewelry, mixed media, encaustic art, glass art, ceramics, woodcarving and textiles.
  • Cost: Admission is free. Art pieces available for purchase range from $5 to $3,000.
