Come Support Parks at New Juanita Neighborhood Meeting Monday

Come join me and others who care about Juanita! The "New" Juanita Neighborhood Association will host its first meeting this Monday, Sept. 19.

WITH SCHOOL STARTING, busy work schedules and all the other activities we juggle, you may not have “neighborhood association” at the top of your list. But there’s a meeting this Monday, Sept. 19, that you may want to squeeze in.  The “New” Juanita Neighborhood Association will host its first meeting this Monday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at Juanita Community Church, 10007 NE 132nd Street.

Besides hearing from city leaders about some exciting happenings, you can vote on some projects to improve the Juanita neighborhood! Without your participation, we could lose out on more than $3,000 in city grant funds.

Near and dear to my heart is a project that will benefit , near on 108th Ave NE. The park has benefitted from some recent volunteer projects, but still needs quite a bit of attention to recover from the county’s neglect under budget pressures. I’m proposing a minor project, to replace a roof and otherwise spiff up a picnic shelter with pressure washing and new stain. The city has promised support (facilitation), but we need your vote and volunteers to make the project a reality.

Also on the list of ideas for grant funding are historic signs at , a community picnic, emergency response training classes and more! Other agenda items include a presentation on the Transportation Benefit District, an update on the Kirkland Park Funding Exploratory Committee and Juanita Beach Park.

Beyond that, if you live in the “annexation area” like I do, the meeting will be a great time to meet others interested in improving the place we live. Come at 6:45 for refreshments and mingling. I hope to meet you there!
