Local Life is Good Store, Jake's Kirkland, to Close Soon

The owners of the Life is Good brand store, Regan and Marty Montano, are moving to California.

Life is about to get a little less good for fans of the popular positive-slogan clothing store Jake's of Kirkland, located on Lake Street.

Marty and Regan Montano opened Jake’s Kirkland, a downtown retail shop selling Life is Good brand clothing and gear, in November 2011, realizing their dream of running a business together.

Now, Regan Montano says, even the good life changes. She said Marty now is working full time at another company and the family plans to join him in California, probably around the end of July.

She says customers have been very supportive, and many very sad to see the store go. The couple has been hoping to sell the business, but so far have no buyer.

Regan says if someone did decide to step in, they'd have a turn-key business, as opposed to the Montano's experience building it from scratch.

Jake's Kirkland continues its closing sale at 125 Lake Street, and Montano said it likely will close by the end of July. She said though it's a little sad to go, she and Marty got to run the store together for a year and a half, and they really enjoyed the experience.
