Marine Patrol Rescues Kayaker from Lake Washington

Rescuers with Mercer Island Marine Patrol responded to an overturned kayak on Lake Washington Tuesday afternoon.

Mercer Island Marine Patrol rescued a 32-year-old kayaker from Lake Washington Tuesday afternoon after his kayak overturned, according to the Mercer Island Police Department.

Marine Patrol units Patrol 11 and Patrol 14 responded around 3 p.m. to the report of the kayaker in the water just south of Seward Park in Seattle, according to Mercer Island Police spokeswoman Commander Leslie Burns.

The caller was kayaking with the subject who had fallen into the water, Burns said.

Officers found the man in the water clinging to his friend's kayak, Burns said. The man was wearing limited thermal protection and this limited his ability to get back in the kayak because he was cold, Burns said.

The kayaker was checked out by medics and warmed up with blankets and heaters and then released, Burns said.

Seattle Police Department Harbor 1 also responded to the call, she said.
