Marbled Murrelet: Recovering a Rare Bird

Everyone
has a favorite bird, but what happens when that favorite becomes an obsession?

For
Maria Mudd Ruth, it led to five years researching the chunky little Marbled
Murrelet, an endangered Pacific Northwest seabird.

In
a talk based on her book Rare Bird and sponsored by Eastside Audubon, Ms. Ruth
will recount the 185-year search for a murrelet nest and relate her own treks
with biologists to study the elusive species.

Ms.
Ruth challenges timber companies, wildlife and land managers, conservation
groups, and citizens to do their parts in protecting the murrelet. An open
discussion will follow her talk.

Free
to the public.

Doors open at 6:30 for hospitality.

Program begins at 7.
