19-Year-Old Hit by Drunk Driver in Kirkland

The young woman was transported to Evergreen Hospital after being struck in the crosswalk at NE 85th Street and 124th Ave. NE. The driver was arrested for DUI and vehicular assault.

A 19-year-old woman was taken to Evergreen hospital after being hit by a drunk driver Wednesday night while she was crossing the street NE 85th at its intersection with 124th Avenue NE, Kirkland Police said.

Lt. Mike Murray said the young woman was crossing the street at the crosswalk around 11 p.m. Aug. 6, though she may have been crossing against the light, when a car headed eastbound struck her.

The woman was conscious at the scene, but suffered head trauma and a possible broken arm, Murray said.

Police found the driver, a 44-year-old man, to be "obviously intoxicated," and he was arrested and booked into jail for vehicular assault and DUI. Information on his city of residence wasn't yet available Thursday morning.
