Alerted by an automatic alarm, Kirkland firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at salon in Houghton early Sunday morning, with assistance from Bellevue firefighters.

The fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at the salon near the corner of 6th Street South and NE 68th. In all, 16 fire engines, ladder trucks and aid units responded.

Patch reader Anna Rising, a friend of salon owners Sandy and Henry Dao, said she spoke with Mr. Dao and that the fire burned through the roof and the business suffered extensive damage inside. Two adjacent businesses, one of them , appeared to also have suffered damage.

Kirkland Fire Department Battalion Chief Joe Sanford said Monday the blaze was contained to the Nail Club, which sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. Adjacent businesses suffered smoke and water damage. The was no estimate of the cost of damages.

Although the Kirkland Fire Department is investigating, Rising indicated Dao believes the fire’s origin was electrical. A ladder truck was used by firefighters over the structure to fight the fire. There were no injuries.
