Estranged Husband of Susann Smith Arrested in Connection With Her Murder

On Thursday morning, June 27, Bothell Police Detectives arrested Alan Smith, 37, of Bothell, in connection to the murder of his wife Susann Smith. Smith will be transported to the Snohomish County jail and booked on Investigation of Murder in the First Degree, according to Bothell police.

This case originated on Feb. 12, 2013, when the Bothell Police Department responded to a house located in the 200 block of 240 ST SW in the Snohomish County portion of the City of Bothell to conduct a welfare check of a resident who had not shown up to her workplace as expected.

Upon arrival, officers found one deceased person inside the residence.  Through investigation and the assistance of the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, the decedent was identified as Susann Smith, (37) of Bothell.  The cause of death was head injuries and the manner of death was homicide.  During the initial phase of the investigation, Bothell Police Detectives identified Alan Smith as a person of interest.

On June 20th, 2013, Bothell Police Detectives served a search warrant on Alan J. Smith at his residence for the purpose of obtaining his passport. He refused to cooperate with detectives and was subsequently taken into custody for Obstructing. While Alan Smith was in custody, a second search warrant was served on him for inked images of Alan Smith’s feet. Once the images were obtained Alan Smith was transported to the Snohomish County Jail and Booked on Obstruction.

On June 21, Alan Smith appeared at Bothell Municipal Court on the Obstruction charge.  The Judge set bail at $10,000 and required Smith to turn over his passport.  On June 22, Alan Smith Posted bail and turned over his passport to Bothell Detectives.

This case remains an active ongoing investigation.
