Kirkland Police Blotter: March 7-17

KPD investigates animal abuse, theft of $24,000 worth of high-pressure couplers, obscene graffiti and warrant arrest after obscene gesture.

The following are selected reports from the Kirkland Police Department for the period of March 7 to March 17.

March 7

  • A pallet containing more than $24,000 worth of high-pressure couplers apparently was stolen from a Totem Lake company’s office some time in December, an employee reported. She said employees had spent two months unsuccessfully trying to track the couplers down with clients, fearing they might have been accidentally shipped.
  • Officials at Lakeview Elementary in Houghton reported that on arriving in the morning, employees discovered broken glass and obscene graffiti on an outside wall, including a swastika, “kill,” and “JAKS.”

March 9

  • Police arrested a 31-year-old Kirkland man for animal abuse and disorderly conduct after he was asked to leave a Juanita pub for bad behavior. Upon leaving the man was reportedly seen kicking his dog several times before being physically stopped by another patron. When tested, the suspect’s blood alcohol level measured .31. The dog was taken to a local animal shelter.

March 11

  • A 26-year-old woman from Redmond reported that someone stole her mountain bicycle overnight from where she had left it in an alley outside her salon on Rose Hill.

March 12

  • Police cited an 18-year-old Kirkland woman for third-degree theft after she tried to walk out of a Totem Lake-area auto parts store with $11 worth of windshield cleaner and motor oil. The two items were returned to the store undamaged.

March 14

  • A 48-year-old intoxicated man created a disturbance inside the Subway restaurant on Central Way and refused management's request to leave. Police arrived and the disturbance continued, but he left when he was advised that he was trespassing and could not return for one year.
  • Police arrested a 45-year-old man from Vashon Island for resisting arrest and obstruction after a physical confrontation with an officer. He had been stopped when he entered a crosswalk against the signal on Totem Lake Blvd., and allegedly was concealing a can of an alcoholic beverage. He also had an outstanding warrant from California for driving while intoxicated.
  • A 48-year-old man from Seattle was arrested for assault on Fifth Avenue near downtown after his 49-year-old wife reported a confrontation that left her with a small bump on the forehead.
  • After making an obscene gesture to police just after midnight on Lake Street downtown, a 25-year-old Kirkland man was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Bellevue for driving with a suspended license.

March 17

  • Police cited a 20-year-old woman for possession of marijuana after she was pulled over in the Totem Lake area for having a headlight out and found with multiple pieces of crumpled aluminum foil with drug residue on them, a straw and a gram of pot. She consented to a search of her vehicle.
