North Bend Man Who With Wife Fought Off Intruder is a Kirkland Firefighter

The intruder was stabbed to death by the Kirkland firefighter's wife, who came to her husband's aid when he was attacked at about 1:40 a.m. Monday in their North Bend home.

The North Bend man who with his wife fought with an intruder in their home early Monday morning works as a Kirkland firefighter, the King County Sheriff’s office has confirmed.

The intruder was stabbed to death by the firefighter’s wife, who came to her husband's aid when he was attacked at about 1:30 a.m. Monday in the couple’s house on the 10100 block of 420th Ave SE.

Other media outlets have identified the husband as Kyle Jacobson, 29.

Sgt. Katie Larson, spokeswoman for the King County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday reluctantly confirmed that Jacobson is a Kirkland firefighter. She said Jacobson and his wife are traumatized by the event and have asked for privacy.

“This family has been through a very significant life-altering event,” Larson said. “Our job is to protect their need and right to privacy. The family is requesting that all respect that need as they get through this.”

The intruder, who police believe 12 hours earlier entered the house and assaulted the wife, has been identified as 48-year-old Kenneth Boonstra, also a North Bend resident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
