UPDATE: Driver of Pickup That Hit Two Teens Arrested for Suspicion of DUI

Two male teens were hit when the truck left icy 122nd Place on Finn Hill. One was taken to Evergreen Hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

UPDATE, Jan. 15, 7 a.m.: The 48-year-old driver of a pickup truck that struck two male teenagers Sunday evening just before 5 p.m. on Finn Hill’s NE 122 Place was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and driving under the influence.

The Kirkland Police Department reported in a news release that one of the youth was not injured, but the other, 17, suffered a cut to the head and was taken to . The injury was not life-threatening.

The truck was westbound on 122 Place, a winding, wooded road on Finn Hill known for becoming icy during cold weather, when it left the road at the 7900 block and struck the boys.

Neighbors reported that about eight police and aid vehicles responded, and had trouble themselves gaining traction on the slippery road. Neighbors also reported that fire crews used a chainsaw to remove tree limbs heavy with ice and snow hanging over the roadway.

Two young people were injured when they were hit by a pickup truck Sunday night on an icy Finn Hill road. A Kirkland Police officer on the scene said the injuries were not life threatening, but that alcohol might have been involved.

The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on 122nd Place, just east of its intersection with Juanita Drive. By 6:15 the victims had been removed from the scene, but Kirkland Police had 122nd blocked as they continued the investigation. The pickup truck was stopped in the middle of the road at a diagonal angle.

Officer E. Karp referred questions to the department's information officer, and would not reveal many details. But he did say the two youth were hurt, but their injuries were not life-threatening. He added that alcohol might have been involved. He declined to comment on other questions.
