Five Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Being Installed Downtown

Two stations will be located at both Marina Park and the library parking garage, and one will go in at City Hall.

Five electric vehicle charging stations will be installed at three locations in downtown Kirkland beginning this week as part of a King County “Clean Cities” program funded by a federal grant.

The three locations are at (two charging stations), (one) and the parking garage at the (two).

The Western Washington Clean Cities program, administered by the county, is designed to encourage the use of alternative energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It is being funded by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Five charging stations have already been installed by the county at the Brickyard Park and Ride in Kirkland near the 160th exit on Interstate 405. Electric vehicle users who register with the program can charge for free at most stations. For information on registering, click here.

The installation of the new charging stations is expected to be finished by mid-November and could be delayed by weather, with work hours expected to be between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. There could be minor delays and inconveniences associated with the work, according to the city’s Public Works Department.
