Kirkland Encouraging 'Tree-Cycling'

Waste Management and Boy Scout troops will pick up and recycle your Christmas tree.

The City of Kirkland, considered a regional leader in its approach to recycling, is offering tips and a reminder in encouraging residents to “tree-cycle” their Christmas evergreens.

Waste Management, the city’s garbage services provider, will pick up your unflocked tree at no charge from Jan. 3-13 if you remove all the tinsel and decorations. Please leave it curbside next to your gray yard waste container on your regular pick-up day. Apartment and condo dwellers can leave the tree next to their garbage cart or dumpster.

Two Boy Scout troops will also collect and recycle unflocked Christmas trees for a small, tax-deductible charge. Troop 570 will collect trees in much of Kirkland Jan. 7-8 for a suggested donation of $15. For more information,

Troop 604 is picking up trees on Finn Hill on Jan. 7, and has delivered payment envelopes with instructions to many neighborhoods. The suggested minimum donation is $10.

There is also a tree drop-off site at in Juanita.
