Traffic Alert: Kirkland Half Marathon/Mother's Day 5K to Cause Delays

KIRKLAND, Wash – Commuters should expect traffic delays due to the Kirkland Half Marathon and Mother’s Day 5K event to be held on Sunday, May 12, 2013.

Juanita Drive NE between 93rd Ave. NE and 98th Ave. NE, and 97th Ave. NE between Juanita Drive NE and NE 120th St. will be closed from 6 a.m. until approximately 12 p.m.

Route impacts will include lane closures and/or delays from approximately 7 a.m. until the final athlete finishes at 11 a.m. For a route map and street closure information, go to www.kirklandwa.gov (Search: Special Events).

The 5k Run/Walk starts at Juanita Beach Park, heads east on NE Juanita Drive, south on 98th Ave. NE, continues south on Market St., turns south onto 6th St. W, north on 16th Ave. W, south on 8th St W, north on 10th St. W, south on 18th Ave. W, north on 9th St. W, north on 20th Ave W, continues north through Juanita Bay Park/Old Market Street Trail, north on 98th Ave. NE, west on NE Juanita Drive, finishing back at Juanita Beach Park. 

The Half Marathon starts at Juanita Beach Park, heads north on 97th Ave. NE, continues north onto NE 120th Pl., north on 100th Ave. NE, east on NE 124th St., south on 103rd Ave. NE, continues south on 104th Ave. NE, east on NE 116th St., south on 108th Ave. NE, east on NE 112th St., south on 116th Ave. NE, continues west on NE 106th St/Forbes Creek Drive, south on Market St., east on 7th Ave., south on 6th St., continue south on 108th Ave NE, north on NE 38th Pl., north on Lake Washington Blvd., west on Kirkland Ave., north on Lakeshore Plaza Drive, north on Market St., west on Waverly Way, north on 6th St. W, north on Market St., north on 20th Ave. W, continues north through Juanita Bay Park / Old Market Street Trail, north on 98th Ave. NE, west on NE Juanita Drive, finishing back at Juanita Beach Park. 

The Kirkland Half Marathon hosts 2,500 athletes during the event which includes a Kids Dash, 5K run/walk and Half Marathon run/walk.  Event website information may be accessed at www.explorekirkland.com.
