Farewell Event Planned for Old Lake Washington High

Former students and staff are invited to remember on April 16 the 1949 building before it comes down as part of a complete modernization.

Come April 16 it will be time for students past and present to bid farewell to the old in Kirkland, circa 1949, now in the midst of a complete modernization.

A special event, “Farewell to Old LW,” will be celebrated from 2 to 5 p.m. April 16 at the school, also featuring a silent auction and sale of Kangaroo memorabilia.

The new school will open in September, with four modern learning “houses,” a new theater and a gym, which is already operational. The $89 million modernization is being funded through a $436 million bond measure to rebuild LW and 10 other schools, passed by voters in 2006.

The old main building will remain standing for the school year and is slated for demolition this summer.

The event is open to the community and will be an excellent opportunity to connect with classmates, former teachers and colleagues. Proceeds from the auction and sale will be used to pay for a new electronic readerboard on the campus.
