Kirkland Parent Named State PTA Legislative Director

Active in PTA for nine years, Shelley Kloba also serves on the Kirkland Park Board.

Shelley Kloba, a Kirkland mother and member of the city’s Park Board, has been elected legislative director of the Washington State Parent Teacher Association.

She will serve as chair of the WSPTA Legislation Committee and on its board of directors. As such, she will coordinate the WSPTA Legislative Assembly and the activities of the WSPTA legislation training program.

“My goal as legislative director is to bring together the diverse voices of our members, help the membership understand that advocacy is something they engage in all the time, and encourage their understanding that public policy affects their children and their school and community,” Kloba said in a WSPTA press release.

She was elected at the WSPTA’s 98th Annual Convention in Tacoma. Her two-year term began June 1.

Kloba has been involved in PTA for nine years and has served as legislative chair at PTA and . She also served as co-legislative chair for Lake Washington PTSA Council. Kloba received the PTA Outstanding Advocate Award at both Franklin Elementary and Finn Hill Junior High.

She also served on the Lake Washington Citizen Levy Committee and worked toward the successful passage of recent levy legislation. In addition, Kloba serves as a trustee on the Lake Washington Schools Foundation. She also currently serves on the Kirkland Park Board and is an Evergreen Hospital Community Advisor.

She and her husband, Tony, have a 13-year old daughter, Katherine. Kloba is also employed as a massage therapist at Donaldson Clinic and is an avid cyclist.
