Breakdown: The Kangs are off to their best start since 2004, also the last year they had a winning record. Lake Washington beat Garfield in the opener 14-0 and followed that forfeit-shortened win with a come-from-behind 39-17 drubbing of Redmond last week. Lake Washington rushed for 331 yards as a team against the Mustangs, with Shawn Gray and Tad Iba both eclipsing the 100-yard mark in the contest. Opponents are averaging just 35 rushing yards per game versus the Kangs, who have outscored opponents 41-0 in the second half this season. Mount Si is 1-1 heading into the third week, having fallen 31-10 to Woodinville in the opener and beating Bothell 26-14 in week two. Cameron VanWinkle has kicked five field goals so far for the Wildcats.

What: vs. Mercer Island

Where: Mercer Island High School

When: Sept. 16, 7 pm.

Breakdown: Both Juanita and Mercer Island enter the start of the KingCo portion of their schedules at 1-1. The Islanders are coming off of a 36-21 win over Newport after losing their opener in overtime to Seattle Prep. Mercer Island quarterback Jeff Lindquist has accounted for nine touchdowns on the young season (seven rushing, two passing) and running back Phil Frazier topped 100 yards rushing in week two. Juanita started its season with a big offensive outburst against Redmond, but went silent in the second week, getting shut out 19-0 by Inglemoor. The Rebels have a young roster, so it will be interesting to see how they rebound.
