Three International Community School Students Win National Merit Scholarships

The students were selected for $2,500 scholarships out of 15,000 finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

 

Three students at Kirkland’s International Community School have been awarded $2,500 scholarships, being among 2,500 students selected out of 15,000 finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The students were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the finalists and their high schools.

That included academic records, difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned, scores from two standardized tests, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, an essay written by each finalist, and a recommendation written by a high school official.

  • Smrithi Sukumar of Sammamish, whose probable career field is biology.
  • Amanda Lin of Redmond, who plans to study medicine.
  • Priya Ganesan of Redmond, whose probable career field is computer science.
