As a member of LE’s class of 2011, Butcher’s project team was a catalyst for the expansion of the King County Mental Health Court to serve the all the residents of the Eastside. Butcher says her new position with Leadership Eastside is a great opportunity to combine her passions for community and leadership development, "Leadership Eastside's vision of a diverse, vibrant, healthy and mutually supportive Eastside community, is expertly served by LE's adaptive leadership approach to leader development. The challenges we face in our communities demand leaders who are informed, equipped and connected. I am thrilled and honored to be a part of an organization that develops these leaders."

LE's unique three-year program serves the greater Eastside region by helping regional leaders develop their skills and connections to make a difference in their local communities through leadership roles in business, volunteerism and public service. The organization has been a driving force in building community leaders since 2005, when LE evolved out of the former Leadership Institute and Advance Bellevue programs.

With more than 400 LE alumni, students and community partners representing the entire east King County region, LE is making a significant impact on the Eastside. More than 140 Eastside organizations are currently benefiting from LE members' volunteerism serving on nonprofit boards, commissions and chambers and many program participants who are holding or have sought public office including three current Eastside Mayors.

Announcing the selection, LE President James Whitfield said, "Kate’s history as a class member of LE, combined with her community work, over 20 years experience working in business and her Masters from LIOS, gives us the skills and experiences that we were looking for to lead the curriculum execution at LE."

Butcher will work with the Leadership Eastside’s Curriculum Committee of facilitators, organizational development experts, and proven community leaders to deliver the three-year adaptive community leadership curriculum. She will officially start on August 1st 2012 and can be reached at (425) 736-6515 or kate@leadershipeastside.com
