Pet of the Week: Many-Toed Reginald Ready to Roll After Rough Patch

Reginald is a 2-year-old sweetheart who loves all and is a 'polydactyl' cat with extra toes.

Two-year-old Reginald survived a rough start in life and is now a gold medal contender for the title “all-around great cat.” But he has something more: several extra toes.

Most cats have 18 toes, five in front and four on back, but Reg is polydactyl, a genetic trait that is not unusual, and has an extra one on each foot. The great American author Ernest Hemingway is said to have been a cat lover who had a special fondness for polydactyl cats, and today they are sometimes “Hemingway” cats.

Reginald was found roaming the streets hungry, very thin and suffering from significant hair loss due to a severe flea allergy. He was in pretty rough shape. That's where Houghton’s shelter stepped in. Flea treatment eliminated the fleas, but it took awhile for the allergy to subside. His hair has grown in very nicely and he is a handsome and sleek boy now!

He has been living the life of luxury in a foster home, and is now at MEOW - and he's ready to roll! He absolutely loves everyone: Cats, big kids, little kids, he loves them all and doesn't seem too concerned about dogs either.

Which means he’d be a great fit for just about any family. If you have room in your heart for a great cat -- with some extra toes -- see www.meowcatrescue.org or call 425-822-6369.
