Celebrate National Dance Day with the Boogie Monster at Kirkland’s Classic Car Show

Did you know that National Dance Day is Saturday, July 30? So is Kirkland’s Classic Car Show, featuring the 24 Hours Diesel Band from 3-10 pm at . A special guest for kids or kids at heart will be the lovable Boogie Monster, who is the star of the Seattle-based company Compendium’s new children’s book, Boogie Monster, by local author and actress Josie Bissett.

Bissett wrote the story to inspire kids to get off the couch and dance, laugh, get healthy and share memorable moments with family and friends. Her first book, Tickle Monster, received the prestigious Mom’s Choice Award for Excellence. 

Bissett was motivated by alarming statistics about children’s health, such as that 50 percent of U.S. children are overweight and 25 percent of children spend more than four hours per day in front of the television.

“Children can use their imagination and laugh their way through a great workout without even realizing they are exercising,” says Bissett, who has been using dance as a way to have fun and connect with her own children for years.

Kevan Atteberry, illustrator and Kirkland's resident, will also be at ’s booth in Marina Park from 5-6 p.m. for a book-signing event. The Boogie Monster mascot will hand out tattoos and coupons from 3-9 p.m. It will also make an appearance around town and at Simplicity Décor’s store on July 31 from noon to 6 p.m.
